IFWTO

New Era of Cooperation

The International Federation of Women's Travel Organizations (IFWTO) will close its World Headquarters in Scottsdale Arizona, USA on June 30, 2000. Under a new arrangement, effective from July 1, 2000 and for an initial period of two years, IFWTO has contracted Skål International to provide secretariat services for the Federation. Therefore, the new World Headquarters for IFWTO will be transferred to the offices of Skål International in Torremolinos, Spain.

Both IFWTO and Skål have similar objectives and structures and their membership covers all sectors of the industry. In recent years, there has been increasing cooperation between the two organizations.

IFWTO's Chairman, Marilyn Byfield was the guest speaker at the 1998 Skål Congress in Montreal and she was a Tourism Day workshop leader at the 60th Skål World Congress in Stuttgart in 1999. This year, Skål International President, Richard Hawkins, reciprocated and attended the IFWTO Convention in Ottawa, where he was a keynote speaker.

An increasing number of IFWTO members are also Skål members. Ansett Australia's, Faye Alexander, who is the Vice-Chairman of IFWTO and Sandra Chiles of Travel People were both recently inducted into the Skål Club of Sydney.
